Art, graphic design and photography combine in my life with small farming, animal husbandry, music and the outdoors. And behind all that is my Christian faith and my training in law. I worked as a lawyer in the NZ Government, in the medico-legal and environmental law areas. I have a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws and am a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand, with altogether 20 years' experience working as a Solicitor, Advocate and Review Officer with powers of a Magistrate. In addition to advisory and advocacy roles, I was several times headhunted for training and lecturing positions. In the last 2 years prior to moving up to the family farmlet I was Lecturer in Business Law for the NZ Society of Accountants Qualification at the Waikato Polytechnic, and I followed this by taking up a similar position for a short time in the Northland Polytechnic near where I live. When I moved up here I decided not to hang up my shingle in the Far North, which would have required me to do 5 years in a local solicitor's office first. Besides, I really wanted to move forward and not backward, taking up a passion that had been burning on the sidelines all my life - art and graphics. I sat the Introductory Certificate in Business Computing in 1993, upskilled myself with computer graphics, and in 1997 opened my own business in our local small town, offering graphic design and desktop publishing. At the same time I taught myself HTML and put my first websites online, including www.healthnews-nz which is still flourishing. Sadly, my mother's health was already deteriorating and, though it was doing well, I had to bring the business home the following year. I continued locally from home, changing my emphasis more and more to the Internet because I was increasingly tied to my mother's side in a 24/7care situation. I joined Co-opWorld in April 2004 and in a couple of months I was working on header design for the company. My mother died in February 2007, and I was faced with 10 years' "neglect" on home and property, a serious loss of income, and the need to develop a plan for my future. I was very blest in that Jesus Christ had reached out and pulled me into His boat in early October 2006, which helped me greatly in the last months of my mother's life, and even more so now that I am alone. I am taking my new life a step at a time, and learning to trust in God to meet all my needs. I am very conscious that because of the Lord working in my life, I achieve things on my farm that a woman working alone would not normally do, and I give thanks for that daily.
